The Tattooist of Auschwitz
9pm, Sky Atlantic
The remarkable true story of Lali Sokolov, a Slovakian Jew ordered to tattoo prisoners at Auschwitz-Birkenau, and Gita Furman, the inmate he falls in love with in the camp and marries after they both survive, inspired Heather Morris’s bestseller for 2018 novel. This devastating six-part adaptation doesn’t shy away from the horrors – telling Lally that he is one of the few Jews to come out of a gas chamber is just one chilling scene. Jonah Hauer-King is the young Lally and Anna Pruchniak is Gita, while Harvey Keitel is the older Lally and Melanie Lynskey is Heather – who we see conducting the interviews that made the book happen.
