Supreme Court rejects proposal to limit mifepristone

The Supreme Court rejected a request to limit access to the abortion pill mifepristone.

The ruling overturned an appeals ruling that would have restricted mail-order prescriptions of the common abortion drug.

The nation’s highest court reached the decision unanimously, which in turn marked a victory for reproductive rights across the country.

Supreme Court to issue at least one decision with major Trump and abortion cases pending

The Supreme Court is expected to issue at least one decision on Thursday, involving important cases Donald Trump and abortion rights are still not settled.

It remains to be seen whether the nation’s highest court will decide whether Trump is immune from criminal charges in the election meddling case surrounding him.

The Supreme Court has yet to rule on two key abortion cases involving access to mifepristone pills and Idaho’s abortion ban amid federal emergency care requirements.

Must Donald Trump won the 2024 presidential electionThe State Department is likely to undergo a massive purge.

Julian Borger of The Guardian reports:

American career diplomats are prepared for the threat of a mass purge if Donald Trump winning the November election and about potentially flooding the State Department with political appointees vetted for loyalty.

Instead of leading to a smooth change of course in the right-wing Trumpist direction, the union of diplomats and former ambassadors said, such a takeover attempt would be far more likely to end in legal challenges, gridlock and chaos.

If elected, Trump has threatened to restore policies he unsuccessfully pursued in his first term by creating the “Schedule F,” a new category of federal employees that would be applied to tens of thousands of government workers in “policy-related” jobs, stripping them of legal protections and subjecting them to dismissal at will.

Nancy Pelosi on Trump’s visit to Capitol Hill: ‘Mission to destroy our democracy’

Here is former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s full statement she released ahead of Donald Trump’s visit to the Capitol on Thursday:

Today, the instigator of an uprising returns to the scene of the crime. January 6 was a crime against the Capitol that saw Nazi and Confederate flags flying under the Lincoln-built dome.

It was a crime against the constitution and its peaceful transfer of power, in a desperate attempt to cling to power. And it was a crime against members, heroic police officers and staff that resulted in death, injury and trauma that continues to this day.

With promises to be a dictator on day one and seek revenge against his political opponents, Donald Trump comes to Capitol Hill today with the same mission to destroy our democracy. But make no mistake—Trump has already cemented his legacy of shame in our hallowed halls.

Donald Trump will visit Capitol Hill for the first time since January 6

Good morning,

Donald Trump will visit Capitol Hill for the first time since the January 6 riots in 2021.

Trump is expected to address House Republicans at the Capitol Hill Club and also meet with Senate Republicans at the headquarters of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, Politico reports.

Speaking of NBC, Mississippi Republican Sen. Roger Wicker said Trump’s visit “will be an expression of unity.”

Meanwhile, Democrats, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, have hit back at Trump’s upcoming visit. IN statement on Thursday, Pelosi accused the former president of being on a mission to “dismantle our democracy.”

Trump’s visit comes after he was found guilty last month of 34 counts of falsifying business records in his historic money laundering trial involving adult film star Stormy Daniels.

Here are other developments in US politics:

  • The Republican-led House voted to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt for withholding audio tapes of Joe Biden in his classified documents case.

  • The Democratic-led Senate is about to vote on a bill that will strengthen IVF access and protection across the country.

  • The Supreme Court is expected to announce several decisions today as Republicans blocked an ethics bill around the nation’s highest court amid a series of scandals involving judges accepting lavish gifts.
