In a photo circulated online, a poster reads “$3 mains until 10pm every night”.
While working security at Surfer Paradise nightclubs, Graham Curran told 7NEWS he was attacked by drunken and lewd patrons and feared the $3 drink deal would only make matters worse.
“I think it’s a terrible idea, they’ll just keep drinking,” he said.
“It might be good for the club but it will be terrible for security because they will have to control the situation and you will get violence.”
There have been 269 attacks on Surfers Paradise nightclub since the start of the year, according to police.
Gold Coast councilor Darren Taylor told 7NEWS that alcohol was the cause of some of the “biggest” problems plaguing the Surfers Paradise area.
“Intoxication is one of our biggest problems in every one of our night areas,” he said.
“It’s improved over the years, we’ve got some really good operators (in the area) so it’s important that they comply with liquor licensing laws and I think all venues should adhere to that.”
Under the Liquor Act 1992, licensed establishments must not advertise or allow anyone to advertise the selling price of alcohol for consumption on the relevant premises or advertise the availability of alcohol for consumption on the relevant premises at a price below that normally charged about alcohol.
The Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR) has organized a meeting with Surfers Paradise bar operators to discuss drink deals and other issues, according to Gold Coast Bulletin.
OLGR and Fabric nightclub have been contacted for comment.
