It’s Big Swan Energy on the carpet tonight. Anyone who watches Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, will be thrilled to see Naomi Watts, who plays Babe Paley in the cult series, grace Truman Capote’s 1966 Black & White Ball. Watts wears a Balenciaga look based on the house’s 1950s dress .

Of course, Chloë Sevigny, the trendiest of them all, wore a look by a designer whose name is synonymous with “I know the latest Vogue like the back of my hand,” Turkish-British designer Dilara Findikoglu. Deconstructed, embellished, corseted, with bows and beads; it’s a lot, in a good way.

OK, Barry Keoghan read the brief and probably the book and succeeded. His look is by Burberry – remember Keoghan was announced as the brand’s ambassador earlier this year, so no big surprise – and it’s a nod to Graf Axel. Note the top hat, rainbow detailing and pocket watch. It’s crazy in the best possible way.

Gone is the flute with which he serenaded the crowd at a The Met Gala past playing Debussy’s Prelude à l’après-midi d’un faune. But regardless, there are plenty of crowd pleasers with this sculptural look, which is clearly the work of Paris-based label Weinsanto.

It turns out that Jeff Bezos bought a ticket to the evening. The billionaire was waiting for his fiancee Lauren Sanchez at the top of the stairs. This is the second time Bezos has attended the event. It made its debut in 2012 when Amazon sponsored it.

Cardi B practically shut down the Met carpet. The American rapper has over 10 assistants currently helping her stretch her giant dress, and its width means no one else can get through. All that’s left to do now is climb the Met’s many steps. *Gnashes teeth

The laid-back elegance of this custom Oscar de la Renta gown might be overshadowed by talk of Pamela Anderson’s makeup. Although she has gone makeup-free for several high-profile appearances recently, there was clearly no dogma in her choice. As she told Glamor magazine recently, “Makeup is an expression. Words are the worst form of communication. It takes your body language, how you carry yourself, your clothes and makeup – it’s a way of communicating. I’m definitely not against makeup, but I really don’t know what I’m going to wear next.” She also mentioned working on a movie recently where she was so covered in glitter that she “ate glitter for breakfast. So I haven’t forgotten about the makeup.”

Anyone familiar with that viral TikTok ‘And He’s There’ will know that this photo was made just for that sound. Nicole Kidman’s dress is from Balenciaga haute couture. Its creative director Demna has reimagined a 1951 version of the house. Kidman says she thinks of him as a “sleeping beauty brought back to life” and that she “kissed her awake.”

Meg Ryan had some terrible time with another Michael, Michael Parkinson, in an interview that, despite taking place almost two decades ago, is still making toes curl around the world. But this rare red carpet outing with designer Michael Kors feels less awkward overall—matching sunnies and all-black outfits help the sense of harmony, as do matching smiles.

Speaking of Lana Del Rey’s giant hat, here she is. Her full look is the work of Alexander McQueen’s new creative director, Seán McGirr. He walks the carpet with her and explains that he based it on an image from the late Lee McQueen’s Widows of Culloden collection from 2006. Judging by social media, this is shaping up to be one of the most talked about looks of the night. 10/10, no complaints.

Kim Kardashian also turned to John Galliano at Maison Margiela for tonight’s Met look. The dress itself is made of metal, which Kardashian describes as “armored lace.” We’re not sure if the twisted gray cardi was meant to be part of the look or if there was some last-minute wardrobe malfunction. She also had to dive out of the way of Lana Del Rey’s giant hat a few times. Certainly not the most relaxing start to her evening.

Another entrant with a lot to live up to – just like with Lil Nas X, Doja Cat last year also transformed into Karl Lagerfeld’s cat, Choupette. This year, again just for comparison, her look seems more understated. But that doesn’t mean it’s an unwelcome change of pace. Sure, the internet will refer to a wet t-shirt contest, but – have I been liveblogging the Met for too long? – this wet look dress looks unexpectedly chic. The deliberately flowing makeup is a conscious nod to a very finished undone look.

Lil Nas X wears a look adorned with 50,000 Swarovski crystals. Luar’s Raul Lopez work, is it paradoxical to say that it feels a little unimpressive? Under normal circumstances, definitely. But last year he transformed, with the help of legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath, into a hedonistic take on Karl Lagerfeld’s cat, Choupette.

The first PDA of the night comes from Rita Ora and Taika Waititi. Ora’s dress is by Marni, and according to Ora, it was made from beads collected from Europe and North Africa in the 1st century BC.

Many of Zac Posen’s fans were devastated after his eponymous brand closed in 2019. They were even more upset when the American designer announced earlier this year that his next creative director position would not be at a high-end luxury fashion house , but instead at high street giant Gap Inc. Are the days of dramatic Posen dresses for the red carpet over? Well, it seems not. Posen just made a triumphant return, dressing actor Da’Vine Joy Randolph in a custom denim look. A signature of the American brand, this is an important moment for both.

The gang you didn’t know you needed has landed in the form of Andrew Scott, Donatella Versace and Jude Law. Scott and Lowe certainly have a lot to talk about, both playing Tom Ripley, the titular character in Ripley and The Talented Mr. Ripley respectively. But their takes on red carpet fashion couldn’t be more different – Scott is very much of the new school of experimental menswear – hands out, while Lowe kept things simple in an old-school tuxedo. Versace, meanwhile, is the creme de menthe that makes this cocktail delightful.

It turns out that Tyla’s four assistants have now resorted to carrying her up the stairs. Variety magazine posted the video below of the singer on X, formerly known as Twitter. Note, she had to give up the sand timer with an hourglass. I bet her assistants are counting down the minutes until they can start the clock.
