Western Bulldogs young gun Sam Darcy capped a night that could have resulted in a ban with a remarkable fourth quarter in a stunning win over Collingwood.
The Bulldogs trailed for most of Friday night’s clash but kicked five goals and held the reigning premiers to just one point in the final season to seal a 15.10 (100) to 12.10 (82) victory.
Darcy was in the thick of the action from the opening minutes, setting himself up at risk of suspension when he bumped Brayden Maynard from behindbut more than made up for his poor discipline.

He kicked two goals in the second term to keep the Dogs close, but his best moments came late on.
Darcy, in just his 18th AFL game, smothered Pies captain Darcy Moore, then finished the same play with a wonderful kick under pressure to seal victory.
His cool club dad Luke, watching it unfold from a radio box, was seen maintaining his composure with ice-cold professionalism.
Luke, who is also on the Bulldogs board, was all smiles in the rooms afterwards, saying his son’s performance was “exciting”.
Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli filled in the blanks as he praised his 20-year-old teammate Darcy.
“He’s a really strong, competitive young kid. It (Maynard’s kick) was a bit old-school, it really put him in a position to earn it, but I think he stood up really well considering it,” Bontempelli told Channel 7.
“The whole team is after you, there was a bit of a fight in it but I thought he was just outstanding.
“He keeps getting under the balls, obviously an incredibly talented kid, but he’s a really tough matchup. He was really good tonight, especially late with that sealer at the end.”
The 209cm Darcy had seven points – five of them contested – and already looks close to unstoppable in one-on-one situations.
“He’s going to be so hard to beat,” Matthew Richardson said on Channel 7’s post-match report.
Darcy said it was the “best win” he had enjoyed in his short career so far.
As well as Maynard’s concern, he also gave away two 50m penalties and was soon hauled to the bench for a chat with coach Luke Beveridge.
“I had a good time, you said ‘keep your head up and move on,'” Darcy told Channel 7’s Brian Taylor after the game.
“It’s all part of it. I just had to get out of my head, keep racing.
Darcy said he had retired since the kicking incident but admitted he could be at risk of a ban.
