Former FBI agent Phil Andrew has spoken out about his concerns for missing Perth brothers Jake and Callum Robinson, saying the fact that one of their phones was in the hands of a third party was a concern.
Fears are growing for the two brothers, aged 30 and 33 respectively, and their American friend Jack Carter Road, who disappeared while traveling around the Ensenada area of Baja California in a Chevrolet Colorado.

Sunrise reports that a woman and two men have now been arrested as the brothers’ family frantically tries to find a flight to Mexico.
Joining hosts Nat Barr and Matt Shervington on Sunrise on Friday, Andrew explained that the phone being found in another person’s hands was troubling for investigators.
“This additional information that their phone was in the hands of a third party is concerning,” he said.
“They are in an area that is difficult to police and very remote, and there are reports of increased levels of crime there.”
Barr asked Andrew what the “most likely scenario” was for the missing trio.
“Given the amount of time, we have to assume that something happened, and if it was a kidnapping, we may have already heard some request or some information,” Andrew said, adding that the arrests could lead to additional information.
“It will be helpful to have people who are connected to this, including the three who were arrested – but it might be helpful if there is any attempt to make a claim.”
“I think it’s going to be very difficult for any ransom situation to be successful with so much publicity about it.
“It’s very difficult to do that and have a safe way to communicate with the kidnappers.”
Relatives said the group surfed at K38, a well-known set of surf spots in the area, but then failed to check into their Airbnb accommodation.
Callum, who lives with type 1 diabetes, also did not return to work this week in San Diego as planned.
Jake, a doctor, is understood to have traveled from Perth to join his US-based brother on the surfing adventure.
Their mother, Debra Robinson, asked on social media for information about the couple.
“I am reaching out to anyone who has seen my two sons,” Robinson wrote.
“They haven’t contacted us since Saturday.
“Please contact me if you have seen them or know their whereabouts.”
“Really quite worrying”
Washington Premier Roger Cook said the situation “must be very worrying for the families affected”.
“When we send our young men and women overseas to enjoy this adventure vacation, they invite an element of risk and that’s really quite worrying,” Cook added.
“I understand that one of the people has a medical condition that will require constant care.
“I share the concerns of all West Australians regarding their welfare.”
In 2015, WA surfers Adam Coleman and Dean Lucas were killed, believed to have been shot by gang members in Mexico’s restive Sinaloa region, before their van and bodies were burnt.
