AT&T users again experienced problems with their wireless service, with the carrier confirming Tuesday afternoon that it was having difficulty connecting calls to users on other networks.
After initial concern that it was an outage, the carrier said in an updated statement that it had not experienced an outage and that it was working with other carriers to fix the problem.
“Our network is not experiencing a nationwide outage,” an AT&T spokesperson told CNET in the statement. “There is a national issue affecting some customers’ ability to make calls between carriers. We are working closely with Verizon to determine the nature of the problem and what action needs to be taken.”
In an earlier statement, the spokesperson said that “national 9-1-1 services are operating as normal at this time and our customers are not affected. We are working to correct a wireless impact notification that was mistakenly sent to 9-1-1 call centers.”

CNET confirmed that calls made in New York from AT&T service were not switching to Verizon earlier Tuesday, although as of 6:25 p.m. ET calls from AT&T were working fine for those with T-Mobile and Verizon.
Calls made to people who were also on AT&T consistently worked fine, as did calls made using apps or services like FaceTime or WhatsApp conversations that functioned normally over cellular data as 5G. AT&T’s data services seem to have no problems.
In a statement, Verizon says his network is working normally. “We have some customers who are experiencing issues when calling or texting with customers on another carrier. We are monitoring the situation.”
The AT&T outage is the latest major problem the carrier has faced in recent months. In February its service was disrupted across the country which disrupted service and knocked out cell service for hours. It accused software for this matter and gave users $5 account credits as an apology.
It’s unclear what caused Tuesday’s problem, when it might be fixed, and whether AT&T will issue credits for this latest problem, as it did to compensate account holders affected by an outage in February.
