Apple is working to fix an issue that led to some users complaining that their iPhone alarms don’t go off – or play too quietly.
The company said it was aware of the issue, which was raised by TikTok users who complained of incidents where their alarm didn’t go off.
“This is probably the third or fourth day in a row that my alarm hasn’t gone off,” said one TikTok user.
Another said, “I’ve noticed that for the past week my alarm just won’t wake me up.” Users said the problem was causing them to have trouble keeping track of the time.
Apple said it was working to fix the problem quickly, though it was unclear how many people were affected or what devices were involved.
Another TikTok user, in a video that has garnered nearly 10 million views, said their iPhone 15 alarm went off at the “lowest volume” and claimed the issue was related to an “attention sensing” feature that was enabled on their phone. “Apple are you trying to get people fired?” the user added.
Apple declined to comment on whether the feature was the cause of the alarm problem, which it was first reported by NBC’s Today program. The attention awareness feature lowers the sound of alerts if users are looking at their device. If you look at your phone, it also dims the display until you stop looking at it.
Apple has too online advice page of alarms, which points to controlling the alarm volume through the “Sounds and feel” feature in the settings, adding that the “do not disturb” and “silent mode” options do not affect the alarm sound. The page also advises users to check that their alarm sound is not set to “none”.
