Snow, rain and strong winds will hit multiple states as a wintry cold front moves across much of South Australia.
Gusts in excess of 90km/h are forecast to blow across southeastern South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, the Australian Capital Territory and parts of eastern and southeastern New South Wales from this evening.
Winds will then move north, with Melbourne and parts of Victoria told to brace for a stormy Tuesday before reaching coastal Sydney on Wednesday.
The wind is expected to bring a lot of rain, with Tasmania again expected to see the worst of it.
Between 40 and 80 millimeters is expected to fall in the west and north and 15-30 millimeters in other parts of the state by Wednesday morning.
Eastern Victoria and south-eastern New South Wales could see 40-60mm, mostly in alpine areas.
The Alps may finally see snow this week, with 15-25 centimeters expected above 1500 metres. Lighter falls of up to about 10 centimeters can be seen at altitudes of up to 1200-1300 meters.
